The Birds of South America by Robert S. Ridgely consists of 4 volumes. Volume 1 includes the Tanagers & Finches. This series is hailed as a major work because it documents the birds of the rapidly disappearing rainforests of South America. Discovery and identification of these birds is critical to any meaningful effort to protect them.
