Lavender Waxbill
Extrilda caerulescens Common Names: Lavender Firefinch, Red-tailed Waxbill

Although sometimes referred to as a Lavender Firefinch, this bird should not be classified with the true "Firefinches" that are of the genius Lagonostica. As indicated by its scientific name (above), the Lavender Waxbill is of the genius Extrilda. The Extrilda are considered the "True Waxbills" (see below), and are found widespread on the African continent.
